The City Market Building

In the heart of Downtown Roanoke

At the crossroads of Roanoke’s Historic Market District, the City Market Building partners with independent restaurant and retail entrepreneurs to provide a dining and shopping experience unique to our region. Come downtown to see history re-imagined and find a little something for the whole family to enjoy!

Enjoying an iced treat and some people watching is a great way to spend part of an afternoon.

The alligators on the corner of Campbell and Wall streets are a tribute to the crescent city, and the Cajun inspiration behind Bayou Snowballs.  The shop, a venture opened by Buchanan’s Crystal Ware, offers shaved ice, a flavored treat popular in New Orleans.
Bayou snowballs come in about 36 different flavors at a time, including seasonal and special flavors—24 regular and 12 cream flavors.
“The City Market Building fits the vision of what I wanted for this business,” said Ware. After opening in November 2011, the unseasonably warm weather has been a boon. “Our biggest days so far have been the Dickens of a Christmas celebrations,” she said. “We served holiday peppermint snowballs. And kids love a Bayou snowball no matter what the season.”

With plenty of outdoor seating at a prime people-watching location, Bayou Snowballs is a great place to spend a few minutes. So take a break and treat yourself today.
